Mawson leads Latics into cup tie

Mawson signed a one month deal with Oldham in August and that was extended on Monday of this week to a further month, a decision that became vital with regular first team keeper Les Pogliacomi out injured.

Mawson has played in the last two games, he came on as a substitute in the first and then played the full game at Doncaster.

Manager Brian Talbot said of him, “Craig has every reason to feel pleased with himself, It is never easy when a goalkeeper comes in for his debut but he couldn’t have done any more and was only beaten by a penalty.”

Alongside him in the side will be the Football League’s oldest player David Eyres who is still a regular in the Oldham side, and still playing very well, as he approaches his 41st birthday.

One player not included though is another former Burnley keeper Andy Marriott. He has been with Coventry for a month but he wasn’t retained and has had a trial with Oldham, to date they have made no move to sign him.
