Mawson back in the league

The 25-year-old Keighley born goalkeeper never made a first team appearance for the Clarets and finally made his league debut during a loan spell with Halifax during his last season at Turf Moor.

He signed for Morecambe after being released by the Clarets and has been their regular keeper for the last three seasons making 123 league appearances for the Shrimpers.

It looked as though he was set to sign for York and then Accrington over the summer but now he has arrived at Oldham where he has signed a one month contract.

He played in their reserves last week and saved two penalties and was on the bench for the first team in their defeat at Hull on Saturday.

Manager Brian Talbot said, “Craig Mawson signed on Saturday on a one month contract and we will take a look at him. Les Pogliacomi, by his standards, is going through a difficult time and Craig’s got to put him under pressure.

“He’s got a month but he’s never played at this level. He can’t do more than he’s done, he’s played well in the reserves, he’s trained well and I’ll have another look at him on Wednesday in the reserves against Manchester City.”
