Matthew and Wilcox lose jobs

Charlton suffered two 3-0 home defeats during the last week. They were beaten by Preston last Tuesday and followed that up with a defeat by the same scoreline against Brentford, and to make things worse, both of those games were at The Valley.

I thought, when seeing the results on Saturday tea time, still basking in our day out at Ewood, that Guy Luzon could be the latest to fall under the Belgian ownership at Charlton; they've hardly shown too much patience since taking over having already dealt with the departures of Chris Powell, Jose Riga and Bob Peeters.

Russ Wilcox sacked at York

No sooner said than done and not only did Luzon go but so did Matthew who has been working for Charlton for over nine years. He started as the youth team coach and has also been the development squad coach and academy manager before winning promotion to first team coach under Powell and then assistant manager.

But he's followed Luzon out of the door along with first team coach David Martine with Charlton late last night appointing Karel Fraeye as interim manager. Fraeye has been there before; he was assistant to Riga during the 2013/14 season.

This morning York sacked Russ Wilcox, just days after he'd been in the job for a year. Wilcox took over from Brian Laws at Scunthorpe and had an amazing start in what was his second spell at Glanford Park, going undefeated in his first 28 games in charge.

That led to promotion from League Two but he was soon gone in the next season, sacked in early October after a difficult start in the higher league. Within days he was at York but today's departure becomes his second in just over eight months with them having only secured twelve points.

HIs assistant John Schofield has also left with former York striker Richard Cresswell taking over in a caretaker capacity. York chairman Jason McGill said: "The board of directors would like to thank Russ for his hard work, commitment and endeavour during his time as manager. He has been a pleasure to work with and is an honourable, decent individual who has given his all to his role at the club."

York, this morning, became the 14th Premier and Football League club to make a change since the start of the season.
