Mason to try again

He was back in action last week at Edgeley Park when he took charge of the League Two game between Stockport and Wycombe that the home side won 3-0, and this was his first game since he suffered the injury.

There was just the one yellow card in that game, given to Stockport's hat trick hero Adam Proudlock, and that took his total of yellow cards to 46 this season. It was the fifteenth that has gone to home players with the other 31 to away players.

Now a select referee, only four of those games have been in the Premier League this season and his last game at that level was back in early October when he refereed Reading's 1-0 home win against Derby.

My only view of him is via television so difficult to know just what to expect. I'll be happy if he referees as well as Steve Tanner did at Wolves last week but somewhat disappointed if he turns in a performance anything like that nonsense from Pike in midweek.

The assistant referees are Trevor Massey (Cheshire) and Jeremy Simpson (Lancashire) whilst the fourth official is Football League referee Carl Boyeson (West Yorkshire) who last refereed Burnley in the 0-0 draw at Colchester last season.
