Martin Paterson ready to score goals again

He'll team up with former Burnley team mates Graham Alexander, now manager at Fleetwood, and left back Stephen Jordan who recently scored his first ever goal in English football for Fleetwood in a League One game.

For one reason or another goals have been hard to come by for Pato who netted 12 league goals in our 2008/09 promotion season, just one less than his seasonal best of 13 for Scunthorpe in the previous season.

Injuries had an effect and he scored just 17 more league goals for the Clarets in four seasons, his best being the eight he recorded during his last season at Turf Moor in 2012/13.

He opted to sign for Huddersfield that summer but he struggled to find the net and then found himself out of the reckoning with after a training ground incident that forced then manager Mark Robins to leave him out.

He netted just five league goals for them, two of them coming at Turf Moor against us on New Year's Day, and he also scored once in eight appearances for Bristol City after he signed for them on loan in March.

Pato had surgery during the summer but since Chris Powell became manager he has been involved with the first team and has made three substitute appearances since mid-October. Powell admitted that he could not guarantee him games and that this move would allow him to play some football.

Grezza said on completing the deal: "His hunger and will to win is fantastic, and the first thing that struck me when we played together at Burnley was the way he trained and how he was always desperate to score goals.

"I still see that in him, and he's obviously a lot more experienced now. We're really pleased to have him on board and we know he'll improve the squad. He's got a fire in his belly and he just wants to score goals to win games. As a club and as a squad I think he'll fit in perfectly."

In response, Pato said: "I'm delighted to join the club. I'm ready now to get going and play some football.

"The move has happened quite quickly over the past couple of days. I spoke to the gaffer at Huddersfield and he said he'd let me go and play some games for Fleetwood. It's been a bit hectic but I'm ready for Saturday and we'll see what that brings. If I do get the opportunity to start then I'll be ready to take it.

"I think everybody in football knows that Fleetwood have been rising over the years, and you can see that in the future it's going to be quite a big club.

"I'm just going to play my game and see where it takes me, but if I work hard then I'll be okay."

He'll go straight into the squad for their game at Yeovil tomorrow. Me, the very mention of Pato takes me back to Reading and that wonderful night in May 2009.
