Marlon is back at York

Marlon - back to York
Former Burnley keeper Marlon Beresford will start next season as he started last season, in goal for Third Division York City.

He signed for York a year ago when Burnley couldn't offer him anything and was there until the beginning of September after which he returned to the Turf for a third spell. He spent all season with a three year contract on the table but lost that when he was released after a disastrous end to the season.

He was in talks with Blackpool boss Steve McMahon just over a week ago and reported that he had been made an offer. But it is to York he will go to work with his former Turf Moor colleage Chris Brass now manager at York.

Recently Brassy said he was keen to sign two of his former Burnley team mates Steve Davis and Marlon Beresford but the keeper said at the time that he would not be dropping into the basement division as he already had offers from First Division clubs.

But that has all changed and he will sign on the dotted line for the Bootham Crescent club and will also be involved in the coaching of their young keeper David Stockdale.

Brassy said, "Marlon has agreed to join. He was the keeper I always wanted to sign - he was my number one choice. There were quite a few clubs interested in him, but he's decided to join us. He's coming into the coaching side of things and hopefully he'll be with us some time this week."

The news has not been confirmed by York City and that is not expected either. They have stopped communicating with their fans via the official web site, it has not been updated for almost two months. Not bad for a community club.
