Marlon back at the Turf

The Bantams have something of a goalkeeper crisis and after Mark Paston picked up an injury against Sunderland recently they have now been hit with news that Alan Combe, the keeper who had the blinder when Gazza made his Burnley debut, will be out for two months with a rib injury sustained in their win over Preston on Saturday.

They do have another keeper in Clint Davies but he is on long term loan at Halifax and so they have this morning signed Marlon for an initial month (those are the deals Marlon apparently prefers) as cover and he is expected to make his debut at Crystal Palace tomorrow night before playing against the Clarets on Saturday.

This will be Marlon’s first contract since leaving Burnley in the summer, he did look to have signed for York but failed a medical with a back injury.

His last Turf Moor appearance in the first team was his substitute appearance against his first club Sheffield Wednesday when he and Nik Michopoulos turned in goalkeeping performances previously unseen at Burnley as we crashed 7-2.

He did play a game for Wolves reserves on the Turf a couple of years ago during a loan spell but I believe the only time he has played a first team game against us was a 4th Division game in the 1990/91 when he was on loan from Sheffield Wednesday to Northampton. The Clarets won the game 3-0 with an own goal and further goals from John Francis and Roger Eli.
