Mark Kendall passes away

Mark Kendall
Kendall joined the Clarets at the end of 1991 as manager Jimmy Mullen brought him in on loan from Swansea. He made his debut for the Clarets at Chesterfield but had something of a disaster in his third game at Blackpool which proved to be his last for us.

He'd spent a lot of his career with Newport after starting off at Spurs but he was also the Wolves goalkeeper for four years and played against us in the Sherpa Van Trophy Final at Wembley in 1988.

Born in Blackwood, Gwent in 1958 he retired from football at the end of the 1991/02 season after a career that had seen him play at Under-21 level for his native Wales and play not far short of 500 league games.

He joined the police after retiring from the game an only last year was named Gwent constabulary National Police trainer of the year. His footballing links continue and his son Lee has continued the goalkeeping tradition and is currently playing for North Welsh club Rhyl.

Our thoughts are very much with Mark's family and friends at this time.
