Mahon set for Blackpool

Alan Mahon
Mahon hasn't started a first team game at Burnley this season, he's made just thirteen appearances as a substitute the last of which was in the FA Cup replay win against QPR.

He was in the side that Owen Coyle first took charge of and he starred in the three away wins at Watford, Charlton and Wolves, but he lost his place through injury sustained in the home defeat against Preston in December 2007. Since then he's started only one game, the 1-0 home win against Charlton a year ago this week.

Tony Parkes enquired about taking him on loan at a club who are aiming for a record on loan players and Coyle said: "Blackpool made an enquiry last Thursday and I had said that due to Alan being limited in first team appearances here, he could go on loan if he wanted.

"I won't stand in his way because Alan needs to play. He's a terrific professional who I have so much time for and I am trying to do right by him. If Blackpool re-visit that on Monday I would imagine something will be concluded, but nothing will happen until then."

Mahon will be out of contract in the summer and given how little he has feature this season it is unlikely that he'll be offered a new deal. And so it looks as though he's played his last game for us.
