Mahon completes move

Last week Andy Gray completed the formalities and today it was Mahon who made his first Burnley appearance as a substitute in the 2-0 win against Norwich just a day after moving to Turf Moor from Wigan.

He was in the starting line up for the following game against Southampton, as he was for all the remaining games of the season, and he turned in some impressive performances winning three man of the match awards on Clarets Mad.

His deal sees the Irish midfielder, who has also played for Tranmere, Sporting Lisbon and Blackburn, commit himself to Burnley until the end of the 2008/09 season, just as Andy Gray did last week.

Highly rated by the supporters of all his previous clubs he's expected to become an influential figure in the midfield next season and Steve Cotterill who described him as a jewel in the crown when he first came on loan said today: “We are delighted to officially welcome Alan on board.

“Like Andy Gray, we had the benefit of having him on loan last season and that month helped him to bed in ahead of next season and get to know the lads. He is also precisely the type of player who will make us play more next season.”

That confirms a squad of 21 full time professionals, although four of them have been placed on the transfer list. Their immediate futures are expected to determine whether Steve Cotterill will be able to add to his three summer signings so far of Gray, Mahon and Steve Jones.
