After winning their two previous games against Slovakia and Bosnia and Herzegovina a win against England would have taken the Scots to the final.

But it was England who went through with a 2-1 win. All three goals came in the second half with Nile Ranger giving England the lead, one which was doubled by Victor Moses.

Macca, who had come close to giving Scotland the lead with a 25-yard free kick just after half time, scored the consolation goal eight minutes from time from the penalty spot awarded after a shirt pull.

Scotland coach Billy Start admitted that they were overpowered by a physically strong England side who now go on to the finals this summer in Ukraine.
