Luton Shelton cannot join Burnley

For the second time in a matter of weeks Burnley have failed on appeal to win a work permit for a player and now there is no chance of Luton Shelton playing for the Clarets for at least another year, when we would be in a position to make a further application.

It is likely then that it would be accepted, given that Shelton is likely to have played more international football, and although the Home Office don’t give out any information, it is more than probable that this is the reason why.

Steve Cotterill was clearly keen on signing the young striker and now his only hope is to try and do a deal that would bring him to Burnley for the 2006/07 season and make that new application for a permit.

For now though it leaves us with three more working days to get our squad up to something like an acceptable number before the FIFA forced window closes next Wednesday night and gets itself locked until the New Year.

With two games to play before then we can only hope we have some alternatives lined up to see us through until at least the time that window re-opens.
