Looking East for a referee

Last updated : 05 January 2015 By Tony Scholes

He's not a referee we'd seen much of until last season. His first Burnley game came in 2010/11 at Cardiff and two seasons later he refereed our away game at Crystal Palace, the 4-3 defeat that proved to be Eddie Howe's last game in charge of the Clarets.

But that changed last season when he refereed us three times. The first of the three was the 2-0 win at Doncaster, then came his only Turf Moor appearance to date, the 2-1 win against Blackpool and almost a year ago he refereed the 3-3 draw at QPR.

It was during the 2012/13 season that he refereed for the first time in the Premier League but he's still only an occasional referee at top level although three of his last four games this season have been in the Premier League.

There have been a total of five this season out of his 15 games with five in the Championship, two in League One, one in League Two and two Capital One Cup ties.

In those 15 games, he's handed out 59 yellow cards and just the one red card. Of the yellow cards, 25 have gone to home team players and 34 to away team players. The only player he has sent off is Derby's Ryan Shotton in their 2-0 defeat at Middlesbrough.

His last game was Stoke's 2-0 home win against West Brom on 28th December. Chris Baird and Chris Brunt, both West Brom, were the two players carded.

Roger East currently sits in bottom place in the RATE THE REF Table with a rating of 55.53 out of 100.

The assistant referees are Adam Nunn (Wiltshire) and Scott Oldham (Lancashire). The fourth official is Chris Foy (St. Helens) who refereed our home game this season against Manchester United.
