Look elsewhere Leicester

Instead of Micky Adams they now have a side being run by Dave Bassett and Howard Wilkinson and when did either of these two last have any success in management?

Apparently it is only temporary but the Leicester board are in no hurry to bring in a replacement yet already any number of potential candidates are being put forward by the media.

Luton fans won’t be pleased to see the name of Mike Newell at the top of the list whilst Southampton fans will be relieved to see Glenn Hoddle being linked with a club other than their own.

And I think the whole football world might be having a laugh at the suggestion of John Gregory getting the job, certainly there will be pleasant smiles at nearby Derby.

But I can assure you that there is no such delight from the Burnley fans at the mention of Steve Cotterill who according to one Leicester bookmaker is favourite to land the job in the crisp bowl.

Some Burnley fans are anxious because Steve has not come out and rubbished the speculation but why on earth should he? He signed a three year deal with Burnley in June of this year and is employed by Burnley so I would not expect him to discuss the managerial situation at another football club.

And surely nobody expects him to comment on speculation found in a newspaper (for want of a better word) such as the Sun.

As far as I can see Steve Cotterill is manager of Burnley FC and will remain so for quite some time yet. I happen to know what this job means to him from when I first interviewed him back in July.

He won’t be going to Leicester, I’m certain of that. And I don’t expect him to be going anywhere else for quite some time yet.

Steve Cotterill will remain as manager of Burnley FC.
