Long to sign for Accrington

Long arrived at Turf Moor last January in a six figure transfer fee from Cork City. He was set to go straight into the first team squad under the previous manager, but things haven't quite worked out that way and he is still awaiting his first call up to the first team and is a member of the development squad.

He captained the reserves recently at Tranmere but was very harshly sent off in that game meaning he missed the reserve game at Chorley against Preston last week. He returned via the subs bench on Tuesday in the win over Shrewsbury.

He had trials with two League One clubs in the summer and spent a week training with Carlisle who for a while looked as though they might take him on a long term loan. That didn't happen and now he's going to spend time at Accrington as he looks to get that first opportunity in the Football League.

The deal is just awaiting the completion of the paper work and that should be done tomorrow. Laws said: "John Coleman has built that club from the bottom and he knows players.

"Hopefully he will bring the best out of Kevin in what is a physical division. Accrington look to play football and we are delighted he is going there, which also allows us to support our local neighbours."
