London Clarets set for AGM

Last updated : 09 July 2003 By Tony Scholes

The London Clarets AGM takes place on Saturday 12 July, starting at one o'clock. Once again it will be held at the Sekforde Arms, Sekforde Street, Clerkenwell, London which has now become the regular venue.

We spoke to the London Clarets Chairman Andrew Firmin earlier this week, he will be chairing his first AGM after winning election a year ago, and he told us,

"Our AGM is principally a social occasion. It’s a chance to catch up with fellow exiled Clarets living in London, the South East and further afield, look back on the season gone and start to think about the one ahead. It's also the key forum for making decisions about the running of Burnley’s longest-standing supporters’ club.

"One of the highlights of the day will be our special guest, Burnley FC Chairman Barry Kilby. As in previous years, Barry will give us his views on what was an incident-filled season for the club and where he sees us heading in future, and answer your questions.

"Also in attendance will be our Honorary President and MP for Burnley Peter Pike, to give his opinions on Burnley and the wider world of football.

"The meeting tends to be done by about half five, with a food break in the middle, where an excellent buffet will be on offer. That said, there will doubtless be London Clarets in situ for as long as licensing hours apply, so there’s no need to rush straight home afterwards. Beer lovers might like to know that the Sekforde is a Young’s pub and a regular entry in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide, so first rate beer is assured.

"The meeting is for members of the London Clarets, but If you're not yet a member, you’ll be able to join on the day. We’ll also be taking membership renewals, along with bookings for travel to early season games."

If you are going to the AGM and are not sure of how to get there the nearest tube for the Sekforde Arms is Farringdon and this is served by the Circle, Hammersmith and City and Metropolitan Lines and the Thameslink service.

For more information, including a map of how to get to the Sekforde check out the London Clarets web site or you can email Andrew Firmin.

And for those who are going enjoy your day with our longest standing supporters’ club.
