Lenny back at Burnley tonight for Arsenal

Lenny Johnrose
Johnrose joined the Clarets in February 1999 as the Barry Kilby money started to take effect. The new chairman had been in place for less than ten months but this was already the sixth signing he'd funded as we tried to avoid relegation back to the basement division.

There's no doubt Johnrose played his part in avoiding that drop and he did again in the following season when we won promotion, starting over half the games as we finished the season second.

He found it tougher in the higher division and started only nine games in the 2000/01 season and in the following season didn't make a single start. It came as no surprise, given that he was out of contract, to see him released at the end of that season.

By now aged 32 I don't think many Burnley fans would have ever expected to see him in a Burnley shirt again but Stan Ternent brought him back early in the following season on a short term contract and he made six appearances before leaving again two months later and joined Bury before later signing for Swansea.

Incredibly, with relegation staring us in the face, he made one more return in March 2004, this time on loan from Swansea. Brought in as cover he went on to play seven times, four of them starts, as we just about avoided the drop.

That brought to an end his career which had seen him play 430 league games for his various clubs and score fifty goals. Tonight he makes another return but this time as the half time guest.
