Leicester 2-2 Burnley: Player ratings as Clarets are denied late winner by VAR

Jamie Vardy grabbed a brace and scored an own goal and Chris Wood had a last-second winner ruled out for offside as Leicester City and Burnley played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at the King Power Stadium.

The game was end-to-end from the outset with Harvey Barnes having an effort blocked and Matej Vydra also threatening inside 10 minutes. Jamie Vardy then spurned a golden opportunity, fluffing a header when completely unmarked in the six-yard box.

Soon after Vardy did nod one home - albeit into his own net. Ashley Westwood's corner was swung into a dangerous area and Leicester's number nine flicked it past Kasper Schmeichel, giving the Dane no chance.

Leicester grabbed a deserved equaliser in the 38th minute with Vardy redeeming himself with a fine finish. The parity did not last long though, with Maxwell Cornet scoring a terrific volley to level things up before the break.

The early stages of the second half saw Leicester dominate possession but fail to carve out clear-cut opportunities. Kelechi Iheanacho - introduced as a second-half substitute - did not convert a half-chance with 20 minutes to play and Tielemans fired off a few unsuccessful long shots, in what was a frustrating period for the Foxes.

Five minutes from time they finally got the equaliser with Vardy latching onto Iheanacho's pass, knocking it past Nick Pope and rolling the ball home. Wood then thought he had grabbed a last-gasp winner against his ex-employers, only for his effort to be ruled out for offside.

This deprived Burnley of their first Premier League win of the season, while Leicester move onto seven points after six games

Here are your player ratings for both teams from the King Power Stadium...

Leicester City player ratings

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Pereira did not defend well | Clive Mason/Getty Images

Kasper Schmeichel (GK) - 4/10 - Kicking was horrific to be honest. A few terrible pieces of handling too.

Ricardo Pereira (RB) - 5/10 - Forgot that he had to defend at times, allowing Cornet a worrying amount of space. Going forward he had his moments but was still hooked at half time.

Caglar Soyuncu (CB) - 5/10 - Looks a million miles away from the all-conquering defender named in the 2019/20 Premier League team of the season. Shaky as anything once again.

Jannik Vestergaard (CB) - 5/10 - Never comfortable with Vydra's movement causing him problems.

Ryan Bertrand (LB) - 6/10 - Leicester's most reliable defender by some margin. Was not bad going forward either.

2. Midfielders

Tielemans showed his class | Michael Regan/Getty Images

Youri Tielemans (CM) - 7/10 - Some of his passes were world class and he was at the centre of everything for the Foxes.

Boubakary Soumare (CM) - 6/10 - An all-action performance. However, he sometimes let his frustration get the better of him. One to watch this season.

Wilfred Ndidi (CM) - 6/10 - Did not provide his usual protection early on, but did improve after the break in fairness.

3. Forwards

Vardy scored his four goal of the season | Clive Mason/Getty Images

Ademola Lookman (RW) - 6/10 - A bright start but his decision making left a lot to be desired.

Jamie Vardy (ST) - 7/10 - Nightmare first 30 minutes. Missed two sitters and scored a horrific own goal. Went on to score twice, of course, because he loves the narrative.

Harvey Barnes (LW) - 7/10 - Leicester's biggest threat. He did not always get the service but he was always trying to test the opposition.

4. Substitutes

Timothy Castagne - 6/10 - Tightened Leicester up at the back, but not great going forward.

Kelechi Iheanacho - 7/10 - Finally introduced midway through the second half and gave Leicester a noticeable spark. Set up the equaliser.

James Maddison - N/A

5. Goalkeeper & defenders

Pope could not keep out Vardy's first-half effort | Malcolm Couzens/Getty Images

Nick Pope (GK) - 6/10 - Commanded his area fantastically when Leicester peppered the box with crosses. Perhaps could have dealt with Vardy better for the second goal.

Matthew Lowton (RB) - 8/10 - Made two goal-saving blocks in the first-half and was defensively imperious throughout. Ricardo could learn a thing or two from him.

James Tarkowski (CB) - 7/10 - Another big display. Helped his side only concede two.

Ben Mee (CB) - 6/10 - Marshalled his defence terrifically. Never looked too uncomfortable against his former club.

Charlie Taylor (LB) - 6/10 - Solid enough and tenacious, a few questionable moments aside.

6. Midfielders

Cornet was terrific | Michael Regan/Getty Images

Dwight McNeil (RM) - 6/10 - Hard-working and played some dangerous balls over the top.

Ashley Westwood (CM) - 5/10 - Struggled to keep track of Tielemans and picked up a yellow card after chopping him down in the second half.

Josh Brownhill (CM) - 6/10 - Played his part in Burnley's impressive defensive effort, keeping his discipline diligently.

Maxwel Cornet (LM) - 8/10 - Absolutely electric before his hamstring went just before the break. Exactly what Burnley have needed for some time. Sean Dyche will be hoping he recovers quickly.

7. Forwards

Vydra never stopped running | Michael Regan/Getty Images

Matej Vydra (ST) - 7/10 - A real handful. Caused Leicester's back four all manner of problems and created Cornet's goal.

Chris Wood (ST) - 6/10 - Disrupted Leicester's centre-backs with his physicality. Made sure that they could not settle and almost grabbed a winner.

8. Substitutes

Johann Gudmundsson - 6/10 - Not a lot to report going forward but made it difficult for Leicester.

Ashley Barnes - 6/10 - Scrapped for everything.

Aaron Lennon - N/A
