Leeds interest in Chappy won't go away

This follows on from the news a week ago that the debt-ridden, relegated Yorkshire outfit had targeted Chappy as part of their rebuilding for the new season following the appointment of Sam Ellis as Assistant Manager.

It was thought that two offers came in, Chappy’s agent former Claret Gordon Armstrong seemed to suggest that, although this was denied by our club this week.

It is all hotting up though but Burnley Chairman Barry Kilby reacted angrily to suggestions of talks and once again reaffirmed that he is in fact looking to extend the young Claret’s stay at Turf Moor.

Kilby said, "I am still going to speak to Richard and his parents in the very near future and I can assure supporters we are not going to just grab the money and run.

"We are talking about a lot of money for Burnley Football Club to turn down, but I really need Richard to become a valuable part of the team here, certainly for the next couple of years.

"I want him to play in the Premiership as much as the next man, but I want him to do that with Burnley, not Leeds."

That’s the story at the moment, and remember that Kilby said we are in a position where we don’t need to sell players. The big question is whether Leeds will come back with a bid so high that it would be nothing but good business for the transfer to go ahead.

But this is not just about Burnley and Leeds, in fact it is very much more about Richard Chaplow. Now correct me if I am wrong but I suspect he enjoys playing his football in a Claret and Blue shirt.

He’ll obviously have ambitions to play in the Premiership but from what I can see a move to Elland Road would not see him playing his football at any higher level than he already is.
