Leeds have been seen off – for now

A two pronged attack of Sam Ellis, the new assistant manager at Elland Road, and former Claret Gordon Armstrong, Chappy’s agent tested the Clarets’ resolve but we stood firm and gave Leeds a firm no.

Stretch Armstrong told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, “Leeds’ improved offer was very much a take it or leave it offer.

“They made that perfectly clear when they tabled it but it was instantly turned down so now it is just a matter of waiting to see what happens next.

“Burnley have their own valuation of Richard and clearly it has not been met, so my understanding is that a deal is now dead unless Leeds change their minds.”

That’s not exactly right Stretch, in fact the deal is dead unless Burnley change their minds, it is clearly not Leeds but Burnley who have brought it to an end.

The fact that we turned it down instantly should suggest that we are not keen to do business and with Richard under contract for the next two years he will remain our player during that period unless it is in the best interests of Burnley FC and Richard Chaplow for him to move on and not the interests of Leeds, Sam Ellis or Gordon Armstrong.
