Lee and Smith get goals

Alan Lee
The first of these was in the First Division relegation battle in South Yorkshire with Rotherham beating Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 at Hillsborough. Former Claret Alan Lee scored the first goal of the game with a header only for Shefki Kuqi to equalise.

Rotherham weren't to be denied though and Richie Barker grabbed the winner from a Nick Daws free kick in the very last minute in front of a crowd of over 28,000. This result puts Rotherham three points clear of Wednesday but more importantly sees them eight points above the highest relegation position currently held by Walsall.

Into Division Three and another win for Hartlepool who are now in tenth place and this after being bottom in November. It was an easy enough win too as they beat Southend 5-1 at Victoria Park. They were two up at half time with goals from Ritchie Humphreys and James Coppinger. Into the second half Humphreys added a third before ex-Claret Paul Smith made it 4-0 with 68 minutes gone.

After that there was time for the home side to make it five with a goal from Jermaine Easter before Barrington Belgrave snatched a last minute consolation for Southend.

Last season we were forever looking at Hartlepool because of the goals of Kevin Henderson but this season his one and only goal came in an away win at Shrewsbury in August. Henderson has had a season of injury but we are pleased to report that he has been back in the Hartlepool squad recently and yesterday was au unused sub.
