Laws goes at Scunthorpe

Laws, who started his career as a player at Turf Moor was the surprise choice to replace Owen Coyle as Clarets' boss in January 2010. It was doomed to failure from day one as he got precious little support from players and fans alike who saw him as a shockingly poor appointment.

He won just ten points during 18 Premier League games in charge but was given the opportunity to build a squad to return to the top flight. For the first half of the season we were in our on the fringes of the top six, a position determined as the target by the board, but it all went sour in December.

Supporters turned on him at Coventry as we played poorly in a 1-0 defeat. We lost a two goal lead to lose at home to Leeds before winning on Boxing Day at Barnsley where again he was subjected to abuse from the away end. Two days later we suffered an embarrassing 2-0 home defeat to Scunthorpe and the day after that the inevitable axe came.

He was out of work until October last year when, just a couple of hours before Sean Dyche was appointed at Burnley, he became Scunthorpe manager for the third time. He couldn't prevent the relegation back to League Two at the end of last season and he now leaves them in 12th place in League Two.

They were in a healthy position in the league after beating Hartlepool on 26th October but since they've won just two points from four games and suffered last night's defeat in the cup. "Lawsy, Lawsy time to go," could be heard from the Scunthorpe support last night and today the axe fell with his number two Russ Wilcox believed to have taken temporary charge whilst the search for a replacement is completed.
