Lawrence goes at Cardiff

Apparently the decision was agreed amicably by him and Sam Hammam, and Lawrence will step down with immediate effect after being in the hot seat for almost three and a half years. During that time he won one promotion and, despite the financial difficulties, has kept Cardiff in the Championship for a third successive season.

He took over from Alan Cork in February 2002 having been out of work following his departure from Grimsby almost two months earlier but his managerial career stretches back to 1982 when he took over at Charlton, a job he was to hold for ten years.

Presumably his contract still has a few months to run which meaning he will be involved throughout the summer and into the first four months of next season but he will have a back seat with a new man in charge.

That man is expected to be former Stockport, Southampton and Wolves boss Dave Jones. He left Molineux in November of last year.
