Lancashire Senior Cup – no go for Clarets

The competition was re-introduced a year ago and Burnley were one of eight clubs who entered to try and win one of the most impressive trophies in football. But that’s where the enthusiasm ended and when we took on Rochdale in the first round at the Turf last September the gates remained closed.

There was no admission for spectators and not only that, the club failed to reveal that the game was even being played or that we were beaten by the League Two side. If Rochdale themselves had not acclaimed their victory we would have know little about it.

So it comes as no surprise to see this year’s first round draw does not include the Clarets, our place looks to have been taken by Manchester United who have won themselves an away draw at Oldham.

At least we won’t be playing games behind closed doors this season – but we’ll have a further wait before we can get our hands on the trophy that we last won in 1992.
