Lafferty signs for Rangers

Kyle Lafferty
It brings to an end a four year stay at Turf Moor for Lafferty and in particular the last few months which have been difficult ones. He recently admitted to becoming too big for his boots when his form dipped, then there was the red card against Arsenal and finally the appendix operation that ruled him out at the end of the season.

I think we all expected him to leave this summer but I don't think any of us quite expected it to happen the way it did, with all the publicity which was a clear case of engineering a move, one which proved successful and to the club of his choice.

He's signed a five year deal at Ibrox to take him until the end of the 2012/13 season and will join up with Rangers for pre-season training. The fee is an initial £3 million plus a further £250,000 to come. Besides that we get Alan Gow should that deal go ahead or there will be a further payment for Rangers.

That fee smashes the previous Burnley record which was the £1.75 million we received from Sheffield United for Ade Akinbiyi two and a half years ago.

He's gone, the talking is over and Laffertygate is at an end - maybe now some of those words spoken will be regretted. Lafferty has been a player who has divided opinion, of that there's no doubt, but apart from his performances for the Clarets he is a player who also put our club on the map with his international appearances.

I'd just like to wish him well at Rangers and hope his career blossoms in the way he would wish it. Good luck Kyle.
