Lafferty not for sale

The SPL Champions made a £500,000 offer for Kyle in January but that was immediately turned down by the Clarets who said they would not welcome another offer. Steve said at the time that he wanted the striker to have a future at Burnley.

On the back of the news that the Celtic offer had been turned down Steve said: "A lot of people swoop on Burnley because in previous years we have had a record of selling a player in January. We are not doing that this year. We are looking to build our squad and be better, and Kyle Lafferty is not only a player for now, but he is one for the future."

Steve has said there has been no actually offer as such from Wolves. It all started with a phone call from Mick McCarthy but he was told Kyle was going nowhere. Wolves followed that up with their Chief Exec Jez Moxey speaking to Barry Kilby, but again they were told that Kyle is not for sale.

That should put an end to the Wolves interest, and the only new manager Kyle will be looking forward to playing for next season is Nigel Worthington who has replaced Lawrie Sanchez as Northern Ireland boss.
