Kyle's night as Irish win

Kyle Lafferty - his first Northern Ireland goal
We'd hoped for all three Clarets to get a start but Michael Duff, Jones and Lafferty were all named on the bench and sat and watched the first half as Northern Ireland took a 1-0 lead though captain David Healy.

It all changed in the second half and Jones was the first to appear, at the start of the second half coming on for Keith Gillespie, and less than seven minutes later Lafferty replaced James Quinn.

His big moment came in the 65th minute when Jones got the ball on the right, he got down the flank and crossed superbly to the far post where Kyle got up to head home what proved to be the winning goal, and his first goal in his third appearance for the full international side.

As the game restarted Duff came on and for the first time in almost forty years there were three Burnley players playing together in the same international side. Alex Elder, Willie Irvine and Sammy Todd all played for Northern Ireland in October 1966 against England in Belfast.

For Steve Jones it was a 25th cap but his first since becoming a Claret – and he's become the 16th Burnley player to play for Northern Ireland. See Internationals for full list.
