Kyle on winning side again

The only good thing about the England performance was that it kicked off early and gave us all the chance to switch to BBC NI and pick up the game from Belfast with Billy Hamilton in the commentary box.

Michael Duff's harsh booking just before half time in Copenhagen on Saturday ruled him out of the Latvia game with a one match suspension but again Kyle was named in the starting line up with Steve Jones on the bench.
The Irish dominated the first half and should probably have been more than the one goal in front at half time, and perhaps Kyle should have done better with a couple of efforts but other than that he was again in good form for his country.

Latvia improved in the second half but it was the home side who came closest, having a goal harshly ruled offside against Kyle when he didn't appear to be active. Our man was substituted with just a couple of minutes to go, and the change served two purposes. It allowed James Quinn to win his fiftieth cap but it also enabled the Windsor Park crowd to give the Claret a standing ovation.

There was almost time for Steve Jones to get on, but with the fourth official ready with the numbers on his board the referee blew for time. For Kyle Lafferty, that's now seven caps just less than a month after his nineteenth birthday.
