KKMC defender is target

They were all thanking us for taking him and many asked if we would be so kind as to take Tony Grant and Kevin Horlock as well. These three players were, to put it mildly, unpopular with the Maine Road crowd.

Grant and Horlock had both been linked with us and Grant did sign early last season and Horlock came very close to becoming a Claret although ended the season as a regular in the KKMC side. There is no way he is going to be linked with us again in the near future.

One player no longer part of the KKMC squad could be joining us though if some speculation is correct. The Manchester press have been suggesting that Stan is almost certain to sign Paul Ritchie.

The nine times Scottish defender is surplus to requirements and it is believed that Keegan would part for around £300,000. Joe Royle paid £500,000 to bring him from Rangers in the summer of 2000. He had been with the Glasgow club for just two summer months after signing from Hearts and never kicked a ball for them.

During his last season at Hearts he spent five months on loan with Bolton playing in fourteen First Division games for them.

He made just eight appearances in the league last season and in his two seasons at Maine Road has played in just 20 league games. At 26 he is looking for a move that will get him more first team action.

There is no doubt we need to strengthen our squad but whether central defence is a priority is questionable with Gordon Armstrong, Ian Cox, Steve Davis, Arthur Gnohere and Mark McGregor all able to play there.
