He could have moved again in the summer having been offered the assistant's job at Crewe alongside Gudjon Thordarson but opted to remain with Notts. Dave had worked with Thordarson previously as assistant manager at Stoke.
Now, with McParland gone, he's been given temporary control alongside Michael Johnson and will be in charge for the game against Rotherham this Saturday. At least he's not taking his team to Morecambe with a former England centre half who might not like the surroundings.
He'll be in charge until Director of Football Sven Goran Eriksson decides who should have the job next. That is of course if Sven hasn't himself had any secret meetings with Chelsea or either the FA's of Sweden or North Korea in the mean time.
Meanwhile the sacking of McParland, coupled with Gary Waddock's departure from Aldershot to Wycombe, has elevated Owen Coyle into 30th place in the list of longest serving managers. To be in the top half now you need to have been in your job for just over eleven months.
