Kevan and Yates get coaching roles

New assistant manager Dave Kevan
Kevan teamed up with Cotterill at the Britannia Stadium but their partnership was short-lived after Steve moved to Sunderland. That gave Kevan four games in charge as caretaker boss but they lost all four before Tony Pulis arrived as boss.

For the remainder of that season Kevan continued as assistant but in the summer last year Pulis brought in Lindsay Parsons who had worked with him at all his previous clubs. That meant a new role for Dave Kevan, working with the youth and reserve teams as a replacement for Ian Cranson who lost his job.

He held that position for the whole of last season but has now taken the opportunity to step back up to first team football at Burnley.

Mark Yates is a familiar face to Clarets fans having been a player at the Turf for two years in the early nineties. He was Frank Casper’s last signing but never fitted into Jimmy Mullen’s plans and was hardly used. He made just nine league starts, all coming in his first season.

He moved on to Doncaster and then Kidderminster before Steve Cotterill took him to Cheltenham where he became club captain. He certainly turned in an impressive performance against the Clarets in the FA Cup just over two years ago.

He ended last season back at Kidderminster when John Ward arrived as Cheltenham boss but Jan Molby reluctantly released him last month.

Now he is back at the Turf and also back with Steve Cotterill as first team coach. Yates will also have responsibility for the reserve team.

That should just about complete Steve Cotterill’s back room team with two coaches, a chief scout and a physio added alongside existing youth team coach Terry Pashley who has for now been given the go ahead to carry on.
