Kember goes at Palace

Kember - sacked today after dreadful run
Kember has had a number of caretaker spells as Palace boss and ended last season in the same role following the dismissal of Mr. Misery Trevor Francis. But after a summer of speculation he was finally given the job on a permanent basis and got underway with a 3-2 win at the Turf back in August.

He followed that up with two more wins at home to Watford and then an away victory at Selhurst Park against then tenants Franchise. Since then though there has been just one more victory in thirteen league games and from their lofty perch at the top of the league they have now slumped to twentieth just three points clear of Rotherham who are in the top relegation position.

There has been much speculation in the last couple of weeks about Kember’s future and with the Palace Chairman Simon Jordan hardly known for his patience it can have come as no surprise to anyone when the announcement came today.

His assistant Terry Bullivant goes with him and player Kit Symons will take over in a caretaker capacity in much the same was as Dennis Wise has done at Millwall.

Jordan said, "The players have ultimately been responsible for their performance but the management team are responsible for the players. Despite the recent downturn in results there is still an inherent belief in the club that the season is far from over and with that in mind I felt it was imperative that I acted decisively to get our season back on track in line with our early season form.

"My ambition to put the club back in the Premiership remains undiminished and I will be looking carefully to appoint a manager capable of achieving this goal.

"Despite today’s events I would like to thank both Steve and Terry for their efforts over the last three years and wish them the very best in the future."

Symons will be in charge for their next game, at home to Preston, but there has been no indication as to whether he will be considered for the job on a permanent basis or whether Jordan will be wanting to bring someone in from outside.
