Karbassiyoon leaves Burnley

Danny was the last of the five summer signings a year ago when he joined the Clarets on a two year deal but injuries ruled him out from the beginning of the season and when fit he never got beyond substitute appearances for the first team. He became a regular in the reserves but struggled to make the sort of impact that would have given him a first team opportunity.

He was one of four players placed on the transfer list at the end of last season but remained with the club when he failed to win a deal with AZ Alkmaar. Again, this pre-season, injury has ruled him out and he hasn't featured at all and is struggling to overcome the current injury.

Today he ended his association with the Clarets, a decision that was felt to be in the best interests of both parties, and they have parted company amicably. He will now head back home to the United States.

Manager Steve Cotterill said: “Danny has been extremely unlucky with injuries from the first time he came to the club and, after seeing a couple of specialists, it is probably best that he gives his injury time to settle.

“We had a good chat this morning and Danny is now looking forward to going home to be with his family. We thank him for his efforts at Burnley and are sorry and disappointed it has ended this way, but wish him all the best and look forward to seeing him play in the MLS in the future.”

It's all a far cry from the day he signed, brought in from Arsenal after we nipped in ahead of Joe Royle and Ipswich to capture his signature. He'd been with Ipswich in the previous season on loan, a season when he came to prominence with a late winner for Arsenal in a Carling Cup tie against Manchester City.

We wish Danny all the best back home and like Steve hope he can make it as a player in the MLS once his injuries have cleared.
