Joslin is Derby referee

Last updated : 10 March 2006 By Tony Scholes

Beeby had been involved in incidents with Steve Cotterill earlier in the season in our home defeat against Gillingham and following requests from the Clarets he was replaced at the eleventh hour for our game at the Britannia Stadium, although sadly not when we played Millwall earlier this season.

Joslin, one of the older referees who will be celebrating his 47th birthday later this month, didn’t have the best of games at Stoke and at the beginning of the season was the referee who allowed Sheffield United to retake a throw in from which they scored.

But for me he’s a good referee, he’s undemonstrative, allows players to get on with playing football, and I recall former captain Steve Davis being very complimentary about him following a game at Ipswich – not the heavy defeat I hasten to add.

He’s not card happy and is averaging just under three yellow cards per game this season, with 95 from 33 games, and to add to that there have been just three red cards. The one area of concern for us is that just 39 of those yellow cards have gone to home players with 55 of them to away players, including the four last week when he yellow carded four Brighton players at Plymouth.

It could be the last time he referees a Burnley game, I cannot recall one worrying incident in any of the previous games, and let’s hope it stays that way this weekend.

He will be assisted by Glenn Hambling (Norfolk) and Paul Varley (Yorkshire) whilst the fourth official duties will be carried out by Jason Tyas (Yorkshire).
