Jones, speaking to the local media in Cheshire has confirmed that he would like to end his career where it started and believes at 31 he's still got at least three years football left in him, but before he can return to his former club he wants to break back into the Burnley side.

"I have another year left on my contract at Burnley and Owen Coyle wants me back at the start of next season," Jones said, despite him only having started one game for the Clarets this season.

"I was unlucky to be out for three months with a knee injury," he added. "So I will see how it goes and see if I can force my way back. I have another three years of football left in me, but you never know what is around the corner. Coyle might have a rethink and bring in his own players.

"But either way I'd still like to finish my career at Crewe as I started here, and hopefully I can go on to 35 or 36, injury permitting."
