Jones takes goal award

Jones amassed over three quarters of what proved to be a massive vote for his 69th minute effort on the opening day of the season that ensured the three points were going our way, this after giving us the lead just ten minutes earlier.

The goal didn't have a big build up, a QPR clearance from their left back position was intercepted by Frank Sinclair who played a simple ball to Jones some thirty yards from goal. Jones turned with the ball and moved forward about five yards, getting into a central position, before releasing a powerful left foot shot.

It flew into the corner of the net giving experienced goal keeper Paul Jones no chance whatsoever, curling away from his despairing dive to his right. It was picked out on ITV's The Championship as one of the goals of the day. Not a bad way to get your Burnley career underway.

The goal will now automatically be placed in our Goal of the Season where it will be joined by all the other monthly winners.
