Jones is QPR referee

Last updated : 14 January 2011 By Tony Scholes
Jones has had some controversial times in Burnley games. He was the referee who sent off Craig Hignett at Turf Moor in 2002, one of those great Turf Moor moments, and he also sent off West Brom's Paul McShane after he clashed heads with James O'Connor in 2007.

He's sent off three other players in Burnley games. Michael Duff was dismissed in the 2-2 home draw against Stoke in the 2004/05 season, last season he sent off Hull's Giovanni and this season he had no option but to show red to Marc Albrighton of Aston Villa.

That Giovanni dismissal was in a game where all the decisions went our way, but that's not always been the case with Jones and there are a number of examples.

He's certainly improved as a referee and is now in his third season as a select group referee having refereed is first ever Premier League game in August 2008 between Hull and Wigan.

This season he's reached 74 yellow cards and 5 red cards in 21 games. It's even with 37 yellow cards going to home team players and 37 to away team players.

He'd sent off Blackpool's Ian Evatt at Arsenal earlier in the season and then Albrighton, but the last three red cards have come in his last two games. He dismissed Bakara Sagna (Arsenal) and Pablo Zabaleta (Manchester City) in their 0-0 draw just over a week ago. Zabaleta rightly won an appeal against his red card.

In his last game, Aston Villa's FA Cup win at Sheffield United, he sent off Villa's Ashley Young for a second yellow card. Young's team mate Stiliyan Petrov and Blades' defender Rob Kozluk were also yellow carded.

Tomorrow we have a woman on the touchline as assistant in Sian Massey (Coventry). The other assistant referee is Billy Smallwood (Cheshire) and Football League referee Rob Lewis (Shropshire) is the fourth official.
