Jones is first summer signing

The signing won't come as a shock to many people, his name has been touted for a few weeks now and he'd already said his goodbyes at Crewe, scoring their last goal of the seasons against Millwall in their 4-2 win.

Jones has been with the Alex for five years, signed from Leigh RMI by Dario G for £75,000 and in his time with them has played both as a striker and as a winger. One thing he brings to any role is pace, something that our current squad very much needs.

He has made the decision to move on and will sign a three year contract for the Clarets on a Bosman deal, despite offers from other clubs in our division and Crewe who were keen to keep him.

Manager Steve Cotterill said today, “We are delighted to have agreed a deal for Steve, who I think will be one of the best Bosman signings of the summer. He is a great lad who possesses great pace and I feel we could have done with that this season, if so we could possibly have turned some of the draws into wins.

“But we cannot look back and instead we look forward to Steve linking up with the rest of the squad when they return for pre-season training.”
