Johnson – will he stay or will he go?

It is no surprise either as over the past few days there has been so much conflicting news on where Johnno is likely to be playing his football next season. It seems that depending on which newspaper, web site you take a look at he will start next season with the Clarets, or is that Nottingham Forest, or is that Leicester City?

We cannot tell you whether he will be with us or not come August and I'm not so sure David Johnson could either. What we do know for sure is that David Johnson would very much like to be a Burnley player next season but in the space of three months he has been available on a free transfer, then for £120,000 but now seemingly will cost £1 million.

Johnno wants to stay, the fans want him to stay and Stan wants him to stay but it really is not that easy and the sort of money Forest are now suggesting would make it very difficult for us to sign him in the current financial climate. Stan did suggest last week that he could take a gamble and sign him and Marlon but did add that it might force him to sell players if indeed he could find a club to buy them.

Today amidst speculation that Stan has decided not to make an offer for him Forest's Chief Executive Mark Arthur claimed that Johnson would be back at Forest,

"David Johnson reports back to us along with the rest of the players on July 1 for pre-season training. Nobody has put a bid in for him.

"We're in a different situation now with Nigel Doughty being in charge because we're not as desperate. We have had no interest in any of our players during the break and nor, quite frankly, do we expect anything until after the World Cup."

Read into all that what you will but although he might not be joining the Clarets I do strongly suspect that David Johnson has played his last game for Forest.
