Banaskiewicz, known as John B, joins the board as John Turkington, Chris Duckworth, Martin Hobbs and John Sullivan all depart leaving a board consisting of chairman Barry Kilby, Clive Holt, Mike Garlick, Brendan Flood and the new man.

Chairman Barry Kilby said after today's board meeting: "John is a real identikit for what we want as a Burnley director. First and foremost he is a businessman. We need to run this club properly and I think we do, but the experience he has gained by building up an international business is an invaluable asset to the club.

His heart is also with the club. He is a genuine supporter who comes from the area, he is a substantial businessman and he can give us stability when needed, so it's an ideal combination for a new director and we welcome him to the board."

Speaking of those retiring, Kilby added: "I have had great support in the past from some of the people leaving the board and the history of the club over the past decade does, I think, reflect the quality of the members we've had.

"So a big thank you to them. I am sure we will see them around and I know they are around to help if it's needed.

Speaking for the first time as a Burnley director, John B said: "Burnley FC is in a good place right now and the board is committed to building us back to our former glories and bouncing back to the Premier League as soon as possible.

"Burnley FC is financially sound and, unlike other clubs, we haven't sold many players since we returned to the Championship.

"There are a number of projects I think could bring big opportunities and we will look in detail how they might benefit the club and I want to help the board, the management, the players and the fans to work as one group.

"I think we proved in Singapore that there is the opportunity to raise the club's profile and tap into a massive new market that can bring us new fans. I don't think it is unrealistic to say that we can make Burnley as big as it was in the 1970s. We will have to work together to get there, but my message is 'Hold the Dream'."
