Jimmy Mullen back in league football

I'd noticed one link with the Clarets this week when our former player Danny Sonner left the West Midlands club by mutual consent and now a couple of days later Mullen, the manager who released him at Burnley, has joined them to work as a full time coach with the first team.

It was February 1996 when he left Turf Moor and he's been away from our professional game ever since. He's managed in the Republic of Ireland and Wales with Sligo and Colwyn Bay, he's worked for the Welsh FA and been involved with some non-league clubs in the Shropshire area where he lives.

Walsall boss Richard Money has now given him this first team coaching role where he will pay particular attention to the continued development of their young professionals and Money is delighted to have him on board.

He said of Jimmy, who has been assisting Hednesford boss Phil Starbuck: "Jimmy comes with a wealth of experience. He has excellent credentials. He has worked with senior players and helped develop youngsters during a coaching career that has spanned twenty years. He is a welcome addition to the backroom staff and I look forward to working with him."

Jimmy said in response: "I'm thrilled and delighted to be back in the full time game. It is a great opportunity for me. I've known Richard for many years, since he was manager at Scunthorpe and I was at Burnley so we used to see each other on the circuit. I've kept my qualifications up to date, I've got my UEFA Pro Licence and I can't wait to get started.
