Jewell is your choice

On local radio this week, Flood just about ruled out any possibility of Jewell getting the job. He resigned from Wigan at the end of last season and is suddenly very much in demand again. It looks as though he's turned down the opportunity to go back to the Concrete Jungle and whilst both us and Preston have been linked he is currently the favourite to replace Steve Staunton as Republic of Ireland boss.

Despite the fact we aren't likely to get him it didn't stop you voting for him, and in a massive response to our voting poll (which ended on Friday night) he was way ahead of any of the other suggested names.

He claimed virtually half of the vote, 48.2% of it to be exact, as you made it clear you would like him to be in charge of the Clarets next Saturday when we entertain Stoke City at the Turf. He'd feel at home too with Burnley playing in blue and white stripes.

No fewer than 9.9% of you voted for candidates other than the thirteen listed and that was a higher percentage than for anyone other than Jewell. Current caretaker boss Steve Davis was the next highest of those on the list with 7.3% and closely followed by another ex-Claret in Micky Phelan who won 7.1% of the vote.

Worryingly, down at the bottom there were people voting for the likes of Micky Adams and even Paul Simpson. I wonder if the latter would bring his bad apples with him if he got the job.
