Jewell in at Ipswich

Keane lost his job three days ago amidst speculation that Jewell was lined up to replace him, but Ipswich placed former Notts County manager Ian McParland in temporary charge for yesterday's FA Cup tie at Chelsea where they were on the wrong end of a 7-0 hiding.

However, they have now confirmed the appointment of Jewell on a two and a half year deal.

Jewell will start work on Thursday after Ipswich's Carling Cup semi-final against Arsenal when McParland will remain in charge.

He's admitted that it is very much a case of consolidating for the rest of the season, keeping Ipswich out of any relegation battle and progressing in readiness for a promotion challenge next season.

There were suggestions that his former assistant Chris Hutchins, sacked as Walsall manager last week, would join him, but this has not been confirmed.
