Jepson takes charge at Priestfield

Jepson went to Gillingham almost a year ago to work with Stan Ternent who was appointed manager and saw a return to football for both of them after leaving Burnley in the previous summer.

Ronnie was Stan’s first signing for Burnley and he went on to make 59 league appearances for us, although only four of those were starts, before retiring from the playing side and taking over as reserve team coach. He held that position until Steve Cotterill became the new Burnley manager.

Gillingham are struggling near the bottom of League One and that has prompted Cooper to end his short association with them. Chairman Paul Scally, announcing the news, said, “Neale has been a credit to his profession and to this club. It has been a pleasure working with him and I am distressed at his departure.

“One or two people need to take a hard look at themselves at this club, as there is no doubt that Neale was let down in certain areas. I wish him every success in the future.”

Gillingham just added that Ronnie will take control of the team until further notice.
