The new contract will mean our current longest serving player will have completed seven years at Burnley following he was picked up by manager Stan Ternent after being released by West Brom in the summer of 2003.

Second choice for the first half of the season he won his place back in mid-January after we'd gone out of the FA Cup to Arsenal but was left out after a couple of absolute howlers at Plymouth and Hull.

A similar mistake by Gabor Kiraly saw him back in the side at Preston and he's started every game, clearly now Owen Coyle's preferred choice of the two current goalkeepers.

He's expected to complete the signing when he returns from holiday and Coyle said: "I am delighted that Brian has verbally agreed a new two year deal. He understands that there will be fierce competition, but we welcome his decision and look forward to him signing in due course."
