Jay was a regular member of the first team squad last season and made a total of 35 appearances, although only two were start against QPR at home and the next game at Cardiff.

This season he didn't make the match day squad in any of the early Premier League games but did feature in the two Carling Cup ties against Hartlepool and Barnsley, but he then suffered a serious injury in the reserve game against Hull.

Only last month did he make his return, again in the reserves against Hull, and is now looking to get some games under his belt as he heads towards full fitness. With David Nugent's loan extended, and the signing of Frederice Nimani having increased the options up front, he's headed off to Oakwell where he will get some first team football.

Barnsley are currently in fifteenth place in the Championship and are comfortably some distance away from the relegation places. He's expected to go straight into their squad for tomorrow night's game against Preston North End at Deepdale.

They follow that up with a home game against Watford on Saturday.

Brian Laws said about the move: "It's important for Jay to play some football. I think he's got a fantastic future and I think he still has a part to play this season."
