O'Connor was offered a new deal by manager Owen Coyle after coming to the end of his contract, but just as was the case with Jon Harley a couple of weeks ago the offer has now been withdrawn after the player said he wanted to see what else was available.

Manager Owen Coyle said: "James said that he would think over the offer we made him and after speakign to him again on Thursday he felt that he wanted the opportunity to see what was out there. And at that point, given that he couldn't commit to the club, we have parted ways.

"James worked hard for us and did well and he was a great lad to work with, but I need people to commit, so he leaves with our best wishes. I wish him every success, except of course when he plays against us."

O'Connor has been with the Clarets permanently since March 2005 after previously having spent three months with us on loan earlier that season. He was a virtual ever present in the side throughout his time at Burnley other than the first half of the 2007/08 season.

That leaves just David Unsworth to make a decision of those offered new deals with only Jay Rodriguez to date having signed a new offer and Brian Jensen having verbally agreed his two year deal.
