It's Winter already

Jeff Winter makes sure Jason Roberts leaves the pitch during the game against West Brom
This will be Winter’s first game of the season and taking a look back at last season he finished the season quietly after a dramatic start. In his first two games of last season he issued a total of 15 yellow and 2 red cards but as is the case with most referees he was keeping his cards in his pocket more and more as the season went on.

He took charge of one Burnley game and that was the controversial home game against West Brom. Winter let himself down badly in that game by failing to take action against a player, Jason Roberts, when he struck a Burnley player in the face. In fact Winter encouraged the Albion bench to substitute him.

To be fair he had a nightmare of a performance in that match and it can only be hoped that he performs somewhat better at Molineux.

It is his first game of the season and the last match he took charge of was the Premiership game between Everton and Blackburn at the end of last season, a match that saw four yellow cards, two for each team.

As for that Burnley v West Brom game there were just two yellow cards, one for Jason Roberts for having a tantrum as he was substituted and one for Gareth Taylor.
