It's underwater but we'll play

It could only get worse, it did, and after nineteen minutes the whole farce was brought to an end by Whitley Bay referee Graham Laws.

Tomorrow, Laws, who has had a few bad days at Turf Moor, will be at Deepdale when we take on in form Preston for our Championship fixture.

I said in the build up to the Leicester game that he was a referee who worried me, he has had so many poor games over the years involving the Clarets – we can only hope he has a good one tomorrow.

He’s recently been at Deepdale, taking charge of their FA Cup defeat against West Brom and on that occasion he yellow carded three West Brom players. That’s no real surprise and despite a more recent burst of bookings for home players he still shows a considerable bias.

In 27 matches so far this season he has handed out 81 yellow cards of which 32 have gone to home team players and the other 49 to away team players. To add to that there are just a couple of red cards.

Michael Duberry, then at Leeds and Kidderminster’s Lee Jenkins are the two he has sent off, and needless to say both were playing for the away team.

This is the referee that amazingly sent off David Eyres, made some incredible decisions in a televised home game against Scunthorpe and then last season gave us some real half time entertainment when Stan Ternent turned on him out on the pitch.

Last time we saw him he had a reasonable enough game as we won that vital game against BRBC last season at the Bradford & Bingley Pulse Flamingo Land Pension Fund Valley Parade Stadium.

Tomorrow he will be assisted by Bob Pollock (Merseyside) and Andrew Smith (West Yorkshire).
