It's Molineux in the Carling

The 3rd round draw was held at 5:35 p.m. today and once again the Clarets found themselves needing to book the team coach with a trip to Wolves. It all started with Grimsby back in January in the 3rd round of the FA Cup and since then we have had away ties at Brentford, Fulham, Watford, Chesterfield, Scunthorpe and now Wolves.

It was not the draw we were looking for although Stan was keen to draw a Premiership club. I would have preferred to see Division Three survivors Huddersfield visit the Turf.

But Wolves it is and there has been just one previous meeting in the League Cup and that was the very first time that a two leg 2nd round was introduced in 1979/80 season.

We played at home first and drew 1-1 with a goal from Martin Dobson in front of a crowd of just 6,163. There were 17,411 at Molineux a week later as Wolves won 2-0 to put us out. Wolves went on to win the League Cup that year beating Nottingham Forest 1-0 in the final.

The 3rd round ties will be played on Tuesday 28th and Wednesday 29th October and the full draw is as follows:

Bristol City v Southampton
Everton v Charlton Athletic
Nottingham Forest v Portsmouth
Blackburn Rovers v Liverpool
Bolton Wanderers v Gillingham
Wigan Athletic v Middlesbrough
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Burnley
Blackpool v Crystal Palace
Chelsea v Notts County
Queens Park Rangers v Manchester City
Reading v Huddersfield Town
Aston Villa v Leicester City
Tottenham Hotspur v West Ham United
Arsenal v Rotherham United
Newcastle United v West Bromwich Albion
Leeds United v Manchester United
